BACK FROM KUNMING CHINA (AGAIN)...AND GERMANY.
In August I spent 3 weeks in Kunming, China, training with the Sha Family (extended family). Groups from Germany, UK, Singapore and Japan joined people from all over China to celebrate the 115th anniversary of the birth of Sha GuoZheng. So much good tai ji, ba gua, xing yi, and tong bei on display...I went again in Dec 2017 - Jan 2018 and enjoyed more good training. The focus for this trip was Sha style tong bei but of course involved more. More on that story later.
Soooo....Germany for the new year in 2019-2020. Sha Sensei and Li Sensei were there for two weeks (seminars, etc.) and I was very fortunate to be able to join in. Absolutely amazing experience and big thanks to everyone who did so much to help me have an excellent
MORE TRIPS TO CHINA AND GERMANY
In March 2025, I made another trip to study with Shifu and Shimu in Kunming (along with several other people from Japan). Shifu unleashed a new form upon us, bagua 64, with more direct advances than circling. I had just almost remembered the motions when he announced, oh yes, when you finish, close the form and then do the reverse image with every motion opposite. sigh. In May 2026, I made my second trip to Goettingen, Germany, and took part in another wonderful seminar with Shifu and Shimu there (Sha Junjie, Li Bin). The instructors took Instruction Overload to a new level and we loved it! I learned a Sha Style taiji dao (saber) 太極刀 form in Kunming a decade ago and it turns out there is a second, longer form. In addition, I got my long-awaited introduction to bagua shanzi 八卦扇子, a bagua form done with a hand-held fan. And some other goodies, including a completely unexpected (but much longed-for) start on a tongbei duilian 通背対連 set, a partner drill in tongbeiquan. In addition to staying on top of all that, I am now saving money for 2027 trip(s) to Kunming...
